George Dean Sr., son of William Dean, was born circa 1756 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.
George Dean Sr. was included on a juror list in 1778 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. This would indicate that he must have been born by 1757.
During the American Revolution, George Dean Sr. enlisted in the South Carolina Militia. He served as a sergeant in the militia before and after the fall of Charleston. His three brothers were soldiers in the Third South Carolina Regiment; He was the brother of Absalom Dean who married Elizabeth "Charity" Melina Abney.
George Dean Sr. sold a tract of land to Samuel Beaks on 22 January 1795 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Both lived in Edgefield county, but Beaks was formerly from Newberry county. For 92 pounds he sold 100 acres, being part of 300 acres originally granted 8 Jul 1774 to Ann Dean, mother of said George Dean, her heir, on Perryman Creek a branch of the Little Saluda River adjacent Denit [Dannett] Abney, John Brooks, Gaven Pou, and Isaac Decosts. It was witnessed by Thomas Reed, Dannitt Abney, Samuel (X) Abney, who sworn by oath before Nathaniel Abney, JP.1

For £38 sterling, two tracts containing 305 acres on Persimmon Lick Creek of Little Saluda River; first tract contains 225 acres, being part of 1190 acres originally granted to said John Abney 5 Jun 1786, adjacent lands settled by James Reed, Zachariah Riley and formerly owned by William Bowlen, John Cox, Walter Abney, Dannett Abney. The second tract contained 80 acres of land adjacent to above tract was originally granted Abner Dean by bounty; conveyed to George Dean eldest brother and heir to said Abner Dean and deeded to above John Abney, the 80 acres hereby sold except a small part that runs into other lands in order to join the tracts together. Witness were James Carson and Thomas Redmond. Signed by John Abney and proven and recorded 26 Mar 1803 by James Carson before Nathaniel Abney JP.2
