Thomas G. GIBSON and Purifee Gray appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 26 September 1850 in Culpeper County, Virginia. The household was listed as Thos. G. Gibson, a 55 year old farmer, whose real estate was valued at $4,250. His wife was Purifee Gibson, age 58. Their oldest son was John W. Gibson, 26 year old farmer and his wife, Lucy A. Gibson, age 30. The other children were Gabriel G. Gibson, a 24 year old farmer; Thomas C. Gibson, a 23 year old teacher; Daniel W. Gibson, a 21 year old farmer; and Edwin D. Gibson, a 19 year old farmer. All were born in Virginia. Living next was the family of Gabriel Gray, age 60, probably a brother of Purifee.²

     Edwin Eustace GIBSON, son of Jonathan Catlett GIBSON III and Elizabeth Mallory, was born circa 1798 in Virginia.

     Jonathan Catlett GIBSON, son of Jonathan GIBSON Jr. and Mary Catlett, was born circa 1726 in Essex County, Virginia.

From Old Churches, Ministers and Families of Virginia by Bishop Meade: "An interesting entry in the records kept by James Madison, Sr., the father of James Madison, Jr., the president. James Madison, Jr. was born Thursday night at 12 o'clock being the last hour of the 5th and the beginning of the 6th day of March, 1751. He was baptized by the Rev. Mr. Wm. Davis March 31 and had for godfathers Mr. John Moore and Mr. Jonathon Gibson, and for godmothers Mrs. Rebecca Moore, Miss Judith and Miss Elizabeth Catlett. (James Madison, Jr. was b. & baptized in King George Co. because his mother was on a visit to her mother's home at the time.)²"

     Jonathan GIBSON Jr., son of Jonathan GIBSON Sr. and Elizabeth Thornton, was born circa 1700 in England.^1,2

Jonathan GIBSON Jr. moved from England to Essex County, Virginia, 1720 He was the brother of the celebrated Bishop of London, Edmund Gibson.¹

Jonathan married Mary Catlett, daughter of John Catlett III and Elizabeth Taliaferro, circa 1725 in Essex County, Virginia.^1,2

Jonathan GIBSON Jr. was sheriff in 1736 in King George County, Virginia. He was also a tobacco inspector.

Jonathan GIBSON Jr. died in 1744 in Essex County, Virginia. He died of accidental poisoning.^1,2

     Francis Conway, son of Edwin Conway Jr. and Elizabeth Thornton, was born circa 1692 in Virginia.¹

Francis married Rebecca Catlett, daughter of John Catlett II, in 1718.²
