Gladys married Earl WATTS, son of William Lewis WATTS and Minnie Lee GILLILAND, on 4 February 1957 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She was the daughter of Richard and Mamie Harris Carroll. Both Earl and Mae had two previous marriages. He had divorced his prior wife 15 Feb 1956 and Mae had been divorced in October 1957. At the time of their marriage her name was Mae Kornegay. Earl's occupation at the time of this marriage was repairman and disabled veteran.1,2

Sara Joyce Kornegay died on 21 June 2022 in Centreville, Bibb County, Alabama, at age 85. She was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Centreville, Alabama.

     Georgia Ann Mathews was born in April 1853 in Muscogee County, Georgia.1

Georgia married Thomas William ABNEY, son of Absalom P. ABNEY and Rosannah HALL, on 13 November 1866 in Beulah, Russell County, Alabama.1

Abner, a 37-year-old farmer; Georgia Abner, his 25-year-old wife; and their children: Julius, 11, son; Eddie, 4, son and Essie, 1, daugther. All were recorded as born in Alabama.

Georgia Ann Mathews appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 1 June 1900 in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas. The household was listed as G. A. According to the city directory he lived at the cornor of North 16th Street and Broadway. Essie boarded with him. In 1908 he married Bertha Conley and moved to Atoka, Oklahoma and became a teacher.

Estella ABNEY appeared in a newspaper article 14 February 1905 in the Muskogee Phoenix, published in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Pearson - Abney --- Mr. Henry Pierson and Miss Estella Abney surprised their friends today with the announcement of their marriage, which took place Sunday evening at the bride's home, corner North Sixteenth Street and Broadway, Rev. A. Grant Evans officiating. The happy event was witnessed by a few intimate friends and the relatives of the young couple. Both the bride and the groom are well known to Muskogee people, having lived here for some time, and having both been employed in the dry goods department of the Patterson Merchantile Co. They have a large number of friends to wish them happiness.

Estella ABNEY died on 22 December 1905 in Muskogee County, Oklahoma, at age 26. Estella was pregnant with her first child and went into distress. Husband Henry Clay Pearson ran on foot to get the doctor. When they got back to her, she had died.2,3 She was buried in Greenhill Cemetery, Muskogee, Oklahoma.4,3

Alonzo Jonathon Marion ABNEY1

     Alonzo Jonathon Marion ABNEY, son of Thomas William ABNEY and Georgia Ann Mathews, was born on 15 August 1881 in Beulah, Lee County, Oklahoma.1

Alonzo joined the U. S. Army about 1906 and in 1909 he was stationed in Seattle, Washington where he met Rebecca K. Blakesley and it was love at first sight. He applied for permission to marry and was refused, but being very stubborn, he got a weekend pass and the two of them found a minister and got married. However, being afraid the Army would find out, he falsified his name and married under the name William H. Harrison. They found their way to Vancouver, Canada where they had 13 children.2

Alonzo Jonathon Marion ABNEY died on 2 October 1948 in Vancouver, Greater Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia, Canada, at age 67.3 He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver, Canada.

Argus Albert ABNEY1

     Argus Albert ABNEY, son of Thomas William ABNEY and Georgia Ann Mathews, was born on 2 January 1891 in Ozark, Franklin County, Arkansas.1

Argus Albert ABNEY appeared on a census, enumerated 1 June 1900, in the household of his mother Georgia Ann Mathews in Fort Smith, Sebastian County, Arkansas. He was mislabled as Argus Abney, an 8-year-old female, born August 1892 in Arkansas.

He moved to live with his older, Edward, after 1900, and entered the Bacone College in Muscogee, Oklahoma. After graduating from college he joined the U. S. Navy and served until 1932. He was recalled to active duty in World War II, ans retired as a Motor Mehanic Chief Petty Officer. Sometime in the 1940s while driving his carhe was sideswiped by a passing vehicle and lost his left arm. Argus divorced his first wife about 1932, and eventually married again to Shanna Christiana Catonguay, born 2902 and died 1954.2

Argus Albert ABNEY died on 2 February 1976 in Wagoner, Oklahoma, at age 85.1 He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Pryor, Mayes County, Oklahoma.

John HUMPHREYS III1

     John HUMPHREYS III, son of John HUMPHREYS II and Monica Maurlein Halliburton, was born in 1764 in Brunswick County, Virginia.

John married Susannah Reynolds, daughter of Joseph Sherwood Reynolds and Ann Bledsoe, circa 1775 in Wake County, North Carolina.2

John HUMPHREYS III appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Dickson County, Tennessee, John Humphreys, one male 45 and over, one female 34 and over, 8 slaves.

John HUMPHREYS III died in 1826 in Dickson County, Tennessee.

John left a will probated 16 September 1826 in Dickson County, Tennessee. He was a very prominent resident of Wake County, North Carolina from about 1765 to 1805. He was county surveyor of Wake county for many years. The surname is usually spelled Humphreys in Tennesee, but almost always Humphries in North Carolina. He was originally from Virginia. After living in North Carolina for many years, he moved to Dickson Co., Tennesee about 1805.

The terms of the will were: Son John Howard Humphreys to get negro Dorcus... daughter Clarida, who married Amos Reynolds, "she dieing and having left no issue" one dollar to Amos Reynolds in right of his marriage with my daughter Sophia, whom he left in a state of pregnancy with her third child and has remained from her ever since and therefore I consider his is not entitled to any more"... son Horatio to get Waynick and negro girl Chance and my survey instruments... son-in-law John T. Patterson to get negro Glaster and his daughter Dolly White Patteson, my granddaughter, the red cambrick curtains in name of her dear deceased mother, my daughter... son-in-law Edward Holley... my daughter Sophia (her male children that she now has or may have as well as two she had by Amos Reynolds and those she had or may since she married Edward Holley) the land and branch thereon I now live... daughter Jenisha [Jerusha] Brown to get $1.25... grandson John Humphrey Brown and Asa Madison Brown and their father Asa A. Brown, give them the negro that their father, Asa A. Brown, did "feloniously steal, take, and carry her away from me." Son Stokely Humphreys: "do not think it safe to gift him with any land and negro property"... I give to all of my children that I now have or may have... grandson Clinton Reynolds, John Severe Reynolds, and Carolina Reynolds... 100 acres of land in North Carolina... my daughter Jenira received on her first marriage... directs "my children bury me on the north side of my dear wife's grave and have a small neat tomb erected over our graves out of rock and arched over and made white with good lime mortar" and the expense of this is to be met from the sale of Peggy, with friend Howard W.
