     George Washington BALL, son of Col. Burgess BALL and Frances Ann WASHINGTON, was born on 20 March 1789 in Virginia. This George Washington Ball (1789-1815) was the second son of Burgess and Frances Ball to receive the name. An earlier son, born 1784, died 1785, was also named in honor of the first President.1,2

George Washington BALL was named an heir in the will of Col. Burgess BALL dated 8 December 1800 in Loudoun County, Virginia.

George Washington BALL died in 1815 in Virginia. He was buried in Ball Family Cemetery.

In the Mercer Family of Virginia papers is a deed (unexecuted), undated, of John Francis Mercer to the children of Burgess Ball: Charles Burgess Ball, Fayette Ball, Frances Washington Ball, George Washington Ball, Martha Dandridge (Ball) Gibson, and Mildred Thornton (Ball) Thompson for 125 acres in Loudoun County, Virginia. John Francis Mercer was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.3

Lafayette BALL

     Lafayette BALL, son of Col. Burgess BALL and Frances Ann WASHINGTON, was born on 20 April 1791 in Virginia. Fayette Ball was named by his godfather, General George Washington, in honor of General Lafayette.1 He was also known as Fayette.

Lafayette BALL was named an heir in the will of Col. Burgess BALL dated 8 December 1800 in Loudoun County, Virginia.

Lafayette married first Frances Bruce Williams on 12 June 1816 in Orange County, Virginia. No children were born to this marriage.2

Fanny died in 1818 in Leesburg, Loudoun County, Virginia, leaving Fayette BALL as a widower.2

Fayette married second Mary Thomson Mason on 6 October 1819 in Buckingham, Buckingham County, Virginia.3

Charles married Lucy Throckmorton Potter on 14 January 1814 in Virginia.

In the Mercer Family of Virginia papers is a deed (unexecuted), undated, of John Francis Mercer to the children of Burgess Ball: Charles Burgess Ball, Fayette Ball, Frances Washington Ball, George Washington Ball, Martha Dandridge (Ball) Gibson, and Mildred Thornton (Ball) Thompson for 125 acres in Loudoun County, Virginia. John Francis Mercer was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.2

Frances Washington BALL died in December 1884 at age 86.3 She was buried in Sharon Cemetery, Middleburg, Loudoun County, Virginia.

Elizabeth Burgess BALL

     Elizabeth Burgess BALL, daughter of Col. Burgess BALL and Mary Chichester, was born on 16 March 1772 in Goochland County, Virginia. She was also known as Betsey.

Elizabeth married Armistead Long on 22 June 1793 in Fredericksburg, Virginia. "MARRIED – In Fredericksburg on Saturday, Mr. Armistead Long to Miss Betsey Ball, daughter of Col. Burges(s) Ball." After marriage they lived Culpeper and Loudoun counties.1

Elizabeth Burgess BALL was named an heir in the will of Col. Burgess BALL dated 8 December 1800 in Loudoun County, Virginia. To his daughter Elizabeth Long a ring of 10 guineas value; and this from no lack of love for her, but because he had already "given her some valuable Negroes," and because she had "acquired large property by the death of her brother."

Elizabeth Burgess BALL died on 28 July 1806 in Leesburg, Loudoun County, Virginia, at age 34. She was buried in Ball Burial Ground, Leesburg.
