     James Abbott HUNT, son of William Henry HUNT and Sarah Rebecca CHAMBLISS, was born on 15 July 1873 in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama.1 He was a store clerk and machinist. James worked many years for his uncle, Stephen Reed Hunt. Then for 21 years he was employed in the machine shop at Continental Gin Co. "His cheerful disposition and lovable nature made him a favorite with his friends and acquaintances." He lived on Lower Kingston Road in Prattville.

James Abbott HUNT appeared in a newspaper article 20 December 1895 in the The Prattville Progress, published in Prattville, Alabama. "On next Tuesday afternoon at the home of the bride in the northern suburbs of our town Mr. James A. Hunt and Miss Cassandra McCrary will take the solemn vows which will link them together for the journey of life. They have many friends who are looking forward with great interest to this important event in their lives."

And then on 3 Jan 1896: "On the evening of the 24th ultimo, at the home of the bride in the northern suburbs of our town, Reverend J. T. Ponder spoke the words which united for the journey of life Mr. James Hunt and Miss Cassandra McCrary."

James married Cassandra McCRARY, daughter of Jonathan T. McCRARY and Nancy Jane Singletary, on 24 December 1895 in Autauga County, Alabama. The wedding was written up in the January 3, 1896 Prattville Progress as follows: "On the evening of the 24th, ult. at the home of the bride in the northern suburbs of our town Rev. J. T. Ponder spoke the words which united for the journey of life Mr. James Hunt and Miss Casandra McCrary. A goodly number of friends and relatives were present to witness the union of these two young hearts. Both the bride and groom are residents of Prattville and will make their home here."2,3

The household was listed as James Hunt, 26, born Jul 1873, Drygood Clerk; Cassie Hunt, 24, his wife, born 1875; Ernest Hunt, 3, his son, born May 1897; and Evelyn Hunt, 1, his daughter, born May 1899. They had been married four years. They lived on Factory (now Main) Street.4

Hunt, a 35-year-old machinist at the gin factory, and his 34-year-old wife, Cassandra. Living with them were there children Earnest M., 12, Mary E., 11, and Dora L., 9.5

James Abbott HUNT was named an heir in the will of Sarah Rebecca CHAMBLISS dated 6 October 1932 in Autauga County, Alabama.6 He died on 13 March 1939 in Autauga County, Alabama, at age 65. The cause of death was pneumonia.7 He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Prattville, Alabama.

He worked as a clerk in his father's store for ten years. After his father's death in 1904 he took over the business in downtown Prattville.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William O. Sanford, of Deatsville, and a young lady of an unusual charm of manner. The groom is a sterling businessman of Prattville, whose friends are limited by the extent of his acquaintance, and The Progress joins those in extending congratulations to him and best wishes to both.

Mr. and Mrs. Hunt will reside in Prattville and will occupy a cottage on Fourth Street, just east of the Methodist Church.

William Allen HUNT died on 11 October 1929 in Autauga County, Alabama, at age 54.4 He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Prattville, Alabama.

In the death of Mr. William A. Hunt in a Montgomery hospital Prattville has lost a most popular merchant and the county one of its best and most widely known citizens. While he had been in declining health for some years, yet he never complained to his friends and none associated death with him. Death came to him last Friday morning at 10:37 o'clock, October 11th, 1929.

William Allen hunt was the son of William Henry and Sarah Chambliss Hunt. He was born October 10th, 1875 and died after his 54th birthday. His father was long a prominent merchant of Prattville and died September 14th, 1904. His mother is still living. For 10 years the deceased was a clerk in his father's store and was in business for himself on the same lot on the north side of Main Street 29 years. He was united in marriage June 20th, 1916, to Miss Nina Sanford, of Deatsville. There survives this union a daughter, Miss Roberta Hunt, and one son, Billy. Jr. He is survived also by his mother, widow, three brothers, Messrs. J. A., A. J. and W. H. Hunt and two sisters, Misses Ella and Emma hunt, all of Prattville.

The funeral services were conducted from the home and internment was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Rev. B. F. Marshall officiated.

The deceased had many friends who are deeply grieved over his death. The Progress join them in extending heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.

     Wade Hampton HUNT, son of William Henry HUNT and Sarah Rebecca CHAMBLISS, was born on 14 May 1878 in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama.1 He began work at the Continental Gin Company in 1896 in the machine shop, but transferred to the shipping department in 1913. In 1917 he was promoted to manager of the department, a position he kept until his retirement in 1950, after 54 years with the Prattville company. He and his family were members of First Baptist Church in Prattville.2

Wade married Jennie COLLIER on 22 November 1899 at the Baptist Church in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama.3

Wade Hampton HUNT appeared in a newspaper article 24 November 1899 in the The Prattville Progress, published in Prattville, Alabama. Hunt-Colier Wedding -- At the Baptist church on Wednesday night last Mr. Wade Hunt was married to Miss Jennie Collier, daughter of Mr. O. H. Collier. Mr. Hunt is one of Prattville's rising young men and the fair young bride numbers her friends by her acquaintances. The Progress wishes these two young folks a long and happy voyage on the sea of life.4

Wade left a will dated 17 February 1956 in Autauga County, Alabama. Those named in the will were his wife, Jennie C. Hunt, who received rights to their home on 5th Street, daughters Willie Mae Hunt and Josephine Hunt Cork, sons H. Raymond Hunt and Eugene Hampton Hunt, and his grandson Charles Madden Clark. His sisters, Emma and Ella Hunt, were named his executrixes. Witnesses were George M. Taylor, Jr. and Elaine Martine. The will was probated 02 Jul 1958.7

His obituary appeared 10 April 1958 in the The Prattville Progress, published in Prattville, Alabama. Funeral Services Tuesday for Wade H. Hunt -- Wade Hampton Hunt, life long resident of Autauga County, died suddenly early Sunday at the Prattville General Hospital.

Mr. Hunt, born May 14, 1878, was the son of Sara Rebecca Chambliss Hunt and William Henry Hunt. He was retired in 1950 from the Continental Gin Company where he was an employee for 51 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held from the First Baptist Church Tuesday at 4 p.m. with the Rev. J. O. Richardson officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery with Griffin Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jennie Collier Hunt, Prattville; two sons, E. H. Hunt, Chicago; Raymond Hunt, Prattville; two daughters, Mrs. Charlie Cork, Macon, Ga; Miss Willie Mae Hunt, Prattville; brother, A. J. Hunt, Ensley; two sisters, Miss Emma Hunt and Miss Ella Hunt, both of Prattville;11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.9

     Arrington Julius HUNT, son of William Henry HUNT and Sarah Rebecca CHAMBLISS, was born on 14 October 1880 in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama.1,2 Arrington Julius HUNT also went by the name of Jake. Arrington was a merchant. In 1910 he lived on Factory Street in Prattville.

He appeared in a newspaper article 30 March 1900 in the The Prattville Progress, published in Prattville, Alabama. Mr. Jake Hunt can now be seen behind the counters of the Prattville Mercantile Co. [Note: this may have also been the post office because Jake is also mentioned as a clerk at the post office this same year]

He appeared in a newspaper article 13 September 1901 in the The Prattville Progress, published in Prattville, Alabama. Mr. Jake Hunt, who has been a very accommodating clerk at the post office for some time past, has accepted a position with the Smith Mercantile Co., and will assume his duties on Saturday.

He appeared in a newspaper article 9 September 1904 in the The Prattville Progress, published in Prattville, Alabama. Mr. Jake Hunt, formerly of Prattville, but for some time past located at Cullman, where he occupies the position of express agent, visited his parents here this week. His many friends will be glad to know that he is doing well in his new field.

Arrington married Nellie Maude SHAFFER on 25 December 1906 in Cullman, Cullman County, Alabama.3

As of 14 February 1908, Jake was living in Prattville, Alabama. He had been living on Chestnut street, but newspaper said that he was renting the Floyd place, a mile and a half northwest of town, and had just moved his family there. By Dec 1910 he was employed as the bookkeeper at the Smith Merchantile Company, general merchandise, fertilizers, cotton seed hulls and meal. Exclusive agents for Star Brand Shoes.

Hunt, a 29-year-old salesman in general retailer, and his 25-year-old wife, Nellie M. Hunt. They were living at 221 Factory (now Main) Street with their two children, Ruth, 2, and Margaret, one-month-old.4

He appeared in a newspaper article 6 April 1911 in the The Prattville Progress, published in Prattville, Alabama. Mr. Jake Hunt has purchased the interest of Mr. Rufus Robertson in the mercantile firm of W. G. Robertson & Co., and hereafter will be found behind the counters of that store.

Jake was registered for the draft during World War I on 1 September 1918 while living in in Prattville, Alabama. He was a 37-year-old merchant employed by W. G. Robertson & Co. He was described as medium height and build, with gray eyes and brown hair.2

Jake HUNT appeared in a newspaper article 11 December 1919 in the The Prattville Progress. The brick store of Jake Hunt just east of main bridge fell and was a complete wreck -- only a small portion of the groceries were saved. [Note: This would indicate that at this time was the owner of his own store.]

On 10 Jun 1920 this article appeared: "Mr. Jake Hunt, whose store was destroyed by the December freshet will re-open for business the latter part of this week. A new building has been erected on the same site and with new stock of goods Mr. Hunt stands ready to give the people of this section good service." This would be the building that still stands downtown next to the cigarette bridge. It is presently occupied by a coffee shop, but was long the location of Hope's dress shop where the author's mother worked for many years.

Jake HUNT and Nellie Maude SHAFFER appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 19 February 1920 in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama. The household was listed as Jake Hunt, a 39-year-old dry goods and groceries merchant, and his 35-year-old wife, Nellie. Also in the household were their children: Ruth 12, Nellie D. 10, and Arrington 3. They lived on Washington Street.5

Arrington Julius HUNT and Nellie Maude SHAFFER appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 4 April 1930 in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama. The household was listed as A. Jake Hunt a 49-year-old grocer and Nellie, his 42-year-old wife. They had been married 23 years. Living with them were their children: Arrington 18, Nellie D. 13, Theo 9 and Donald 7. They owned their home at 92 Chestnut Street which was valued at $5,000.6

Jake was employed as manager by the Nettles Store on 16 March 1933 in Prattville, Alabama. According to an article in the Prattville Progress he won a contest between 16 Nettles stores in Alabama for the biggest increase in the sales of a popular bar of soap of a two months period. He had been manager of Nettles since March 1931. Nettle had apparently bought him out and was in the same location as Jake's grocery as a 1939 said that Wall's Feed Store was opening in the former location of Jake Hunt and Nettles.

On 5 Oct 1933 he was announced as a manager with the Smith Mercantile Company where he had worked earlier and then 28 Nov 1935 he was named manager of the Prattville Cash Store.8

Jake moved from Prattville to Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, circa 1941 In 1942 and 1956 Jake was reported living in Ensley, a neighborhood in Birmingham. He was employed by Mutual Oil Company.

Arrington Julius HUNT died on 22 October 1961 in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Alabama, at age 81.9

His obituary appeared 24 October 1961 in the The Birmingham News, published in Birmingham, Alabama. Services for Arrington Julius Hunt, 81, of Avenue I in Ensley, were held today at Angwin Mortuary with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Hunt died Sunday in a local hospital.

A native of Prattville, Alabama, he had been a resident of Birmingham 20 years and was employed by Mutual Oil Company.

Survivors are his wife; daughters, Ruth (Mrs. L.L.) Howell of Maitland, Florida and Nella (Mrs. A.C., Jr.) Griffin of Rome, New York; sons, Arrington Hunt of Silver Springs, Maryland, Donald S. Hunt of Falls Church, Virginia and Tordore M. Hunt of Birmingham; sisters, Emma Hunt and Ella Hunt, both of Prattville.

     John MARSHALL, son of John MARSHALL and Sarah Norwood, was born circa 1714 in Brunswick County, Virginia.

John married Mary MALONE, daughter of William Malone and Anne TUCKER, circa 1735.

John MARSHALL died on 17 July 1782 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia.1,2

John left a will in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. His wife was not named so probably deceased. It names his children: Samuel, James, Benjamin, Lucy Malone, and Ann Nance (wife of Robert Nance). Also mentioned were his grandson, Jesse Carter, and granddaugthers, Catherine Carter, Mary Ingram, Betsy Hooper and Judith Nance. His executors were sons Samuel and James Marshall. Witnesses were John Arnold, William Pegram and Elias Arnold.

John left a will dated 28 January 1842 in Wilcox County, Alabama. Last will and testament of John Vincent of Wilcox County. He bequeathed to his nephew, John Vincent, two negroes to be held until he is is age 21; to his nephews and neices the monies from the sale of land to be divided equally between them, to wit: Perry O. Vincent, Thomas Vincent, Mariah Vincent wife of John Moss and Jane Vincent, Jarrell Vincent, heirs of Jarrell Vincent, Sr; to Littleberry Vincent, heir of brother, Robert Vincent, $200; to heirs of Laban Vincent $200 each. Friend John Hardie Moss named executor. Witnesses William R. Marshall, William Hobbs, and Washington J. Outlaw. Proven 21 Feb 1842.1
