Tullahoma was created in 1852 when the Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad was built. It was half iin Franklin and half in Coffee counties, and on the border with Moore county which was created in 1871.³

Joseph died on 20 May 1873 in Moore County, Tennessee, at age 49 leaving Nancy Catherine Smith as a widow. At the time they had six children under 18.

     James Hoard BURT, son of Joseph John BURT and Nancy Catherine Smith, was born on 10 August 1846 in Tullahoma, Franklin County, Tennessee.¹

James began military service at age 16 in March 1863 in Normandy, Bedford County, Tennessee, where he enlisted as a private in Compay K, 4th Tennessee Infantry, CSA. He received a Confederate veteran's pension beginning about 1905 in Madison county. Alabama.¹

There is no such town and the closest cemetery name is Gault Cemetery, however she is not listed in Find A Grave.¹
