The reason for the note is not known, but it was among others stolen from Dr. Kaeiser"s wife Margaret on 1 Sep 1864. A band of Tories home on furlough from the 1st Alabama Union Cavalry raided the town of Jasper and freed a group of Tory prisoners from Winston county from the jail. On their way back to Winston county that night they stopped at the home of Dr. Kaeiser and shot him when they determined that he was instrumental in them being taken prisoner. They also robbed his wife.5
William Hardy BURT died on 16 July 1893 in Morgan County, Alabama, at age 71. He died of consumption.1 He was buried in Decatur City Cemetery, Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama.
