The 17th fought in Bragg's invasion of Kentucky at Munfordville and Perryville. It lost almost half it's men at Murfreesboro under Patrick Cleburne and again suffered 50% casualties at Chickamauga. It served under Longstreet at Knoxville and in East Tennessee before being transferred to the Army of Northern Virginia in 1864. After many battles in Virginia it surrendered at Appomattox with only 70 of its original 1000 men.4

Charles Frederick BURT, son of Frederick BURT and Nancy Wormack, was born in 1838 in Franklin County, Tennessee.

It lost almost half it's men at Murfreesboro under Patrick Cleburne and again suffered 50% casualties at Chickamauga. It served under Longstreet at Knoxville and in East Tennessee before being transferred to the Army of Northern Virginia in 1864. After many battles in Virginia it surrendered at Appomattox with only 70 of its original 1000 men. circa 1862.
