Rebecca Womack and Willis BURT moved from Cumberland county, North Carolina to Franklin County, Tennessee, before 1830 The area where Willis settled is near Winchester Springs where William and Susan Sims Burt, son and daughter-in-law of William Burt and Salumith Ballard. of Warren county, North Carolina, apparently built a hotel. Willis is named in William's will as a neighbor of his Bunscomb tract.1

Rebecca Womack and Willis BURT appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 1850 in Franklin County, Tennessee. The household was listed as Willis Burt, 53; Rebecca Burt, 52; John S. Burt, 23; William Burt, 21; Malinda Burt, 20; Joseph Burt, 18; Nancy Burt, 15; and Sarah Burt, 14. Willis and Rebecca were born in North Carolina and all of theire children were born in Tennessee.1

The first contained 210 acres on Buckhorn beginning at white oak then south to the Cape Fear River, then up the river to Griffis' line then along that line to Ragland's line then to the head of the Dry Water Branch then down to the Buckhorn, then through the plantation between the dwelling and kitchen then back to the beginning.

The second tract was 200 acres beginning at a Spanish oak then west to a corner then south to the Spring Branch then along the dividing line with the first section.

The petition claimed that Lucy and Mary were each entitled to 51 and 2/3 acres of the said land. It asked that a commission be appointed to divide the land. This commission was appointed and the land split three ways between Mary, Lucy and John.

His estate was contested in August 1807 in Chatham County, North Carolina.      John BURT, son of Richard BURT and Mourning (?), was born circa 1787 in Chatham County, North Carolina.

John BURT was made the ward of his uncle Young BURT Sr. 1791 Chatham County, North Carolina.

John BURT was listed as one of the heirs to the estate of Richard BURT 1792 in Chatham County, North Carolina. Peter Qualls of Chatham county filed a bond of 1000 pounds and was bound as guardian for Riahard and Mourning Burt's orphan children Mary, William, Lucy, John and Peter.

Mary BURT, John BURT and William BURT and Lucy BURT were made the wards of their uncle Young BURT Sr. on 13 May 1794 in Pittsboro, Chatham County, North Carolina. Young Burt posted bond as their guardian on that date.

On 15 Apr 1803 in court at Pittsboro, Chatham county, Owen Dowd and Young Burt, guardians of Richard Burt's orphans sued Charles Dowd, John Dowd, ___ Smith, and John Alston regarding payment of $512.00 owed and unjustly detained from Richard Burt's estate.

John BURT was listed as a beneficiary in his brother William BURT's estate in August 1807 in Chatham County, North Carolina. In the Chatham Court of Pleas a petition was filed by Owen Dowd and Mary his wife and Benjamin Siler and Lucy his wife on behalf of William's sisters Mary and Lucy Burt. It stated that William died intestate and without issue. It claimed that Mary and Lucy and their brother John Burt were the "heirs at law." John Burt was said to be under age twenty-one and under the guardianship of his brother [uncle] Young Burt. It said that Owen Dowd was the administrator of the goods and chattels of William. It said that William and John were "tenants in common" of two tracts of land in Chatham. The first contained 210 acres on Buckhorn beginning at white oak then south to the Cape Fear River, then up the river to Griffis' line then along that line to Ragland's line then to the head of the Dry Water Branch then down to the Buckhorn, then through the plantation between the dwelling and kitchen then back to the beginning.

The second tract was 200 acres beginning at a Spanish oak then west to a corner then south to the Spring Branch then along the dividing line with the first section.

On 19 Jul 1810 in Chatham county, twelve good and lawful men met with Sheriff Lightfoot at Owen Dowd's home for the purpose of certifying that John Burt is an idiot and has been since birth.

John BURT died in 1812 in Cumberland County, North Carolina.

Benjamin married Lucy BURT, daughter of Richard BURT and Mourning (?), on 1 December 1805 in Cumberland County, North Carolina. The marriage bond was posted by Benjamin Siler and Owen Dowd. It was witnessed by David Holt.1,2

Benjamin Watts Siler appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Moore County, North Carolina, Two males 16-25, three females under 10, one female 16-26, one female 26-44. Benjamin and Lucy fit the 16-25 bracket.

Benjamin Watts Siler appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Shelby County, Illinois.

Benjamin Watts Siler died after 1855 in Cumberland County, Illinois.

     Ara Alice Alford was born on 17 November 1860 in Texas.1 She was commonly known as Alice.

Ara married John Mack BROWN, son of John Humphreys BROWN and Jane Ann Allen, on 28 December 1876 in San Saba County, Texas.1
