- [S697] Albert S. J. Burt is how he referred in the list of heirs of the deceased John J. Burt in Martin R. Burt's probate documents. In the 1870 census he is listed as John A. Burt. Perhaps he was referred to as John Albert by the family. No other records on him have been located. He apparently died prior to the 1900 census because Laura was said to be the mother of 5 children with 2 still living, which would have been Martha and Mary.

Bailey A. Abney
M, b. 1822, d. 23 November 1865
Bailey A. Abney was born in 1822 in South Carolina. He was also known as Bailey Frederick, however all records during his lifetime listed him as Bailey A. Abney. This author believes the Frederick is a modern error based on that name being given as the father on a death certificate for his son Robert David Abney. The person providing the information was not a close relative so may not be reliable.
Bailey married Caroline Smiley Bollinger on 28 August 1845 in Pulaski County, Georgia. She was the daughter of John and Ashsa Perkins Bollinger.
Bailey A. Abney and Caroline Smiley Bollinger appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 12 August 1850 in Pulaski County, Georgia. The household was listed as Baily A. Abney, a 28-year-old mason, born in South Carolina; Caroline S. Abney, 20, born South Caroline; Wm. M. Abney, 11, born South Carolina; Baily A. Abney, 2; and Martha J Abney, 3/12. The two youngest were born in Georgia. Bailey, Sr. had real estate valued $20 and William $300. William may have been adopted from relatives, based on his age and the real estate he owned.
Bailey A. Abney and Caroline Smiley Bollinger appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 2 July 1860 in Hawkinsville, Pulaski County, Georgia. The household was listed as Baly Abner, a 47-year-old mason, born South Carolina. He had real estate valued $1200 and personal estate valued $800. With him were Caroline Abner, age 31, born Georgia; Baly Abner, age 12; Martha J. Abner, age 10; Robert A. Abner, age 7; Henrietta Abner, age 6; Elizabeth Abner, 3; John F. Abner, age 1 month; William Abner, a 20-year-old Laborer, born Georgia; and William Wilkinson, 23, laborer, born Georgia. All of the children wee born in Georgia.
Bailey saw military service circa 1862 in Pulaski County, Georgia, enlisting as a private in Company D, 10th Confederate Cavalry Regiment, CSA. He was captured at Big Hill, Kentucky. He was held as a POW at Camp Chase, Ohio and Louisville, Kentucky before being released and transferred to a Richmond Hospital. Some family indicate his body was sent to Savannah's Laurel Grove Cemetery-Confederate Field where many Georgia CSA burials were made.
In the Confederate Pension Applications, Caroline Abney, living in Polk County, Georgia, made application in 1906 for a widows pension. So both her husband and son, Bailey, must have died in the Civil War.1
Bailey A. Abney died on 23 November 1865 in Richmond, Virginia.1 He was buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery North, Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia.
