In 1935 she had been living in Lafayette, Walker county, Georgia. She was one of 11 lodgers in the boarding house. Also there was Thomas Abney Brown, a lodger, 29 years old, single, born Alabama, and employed as a material inspector for the State Highway Department. He had worked all 52 weeks in 1939 and had earned $1500 in 1940. He had completed two years of college. In 1935 he had been living in Gadsden, Etowah county, Alabama. There is no known connection between the two other than the coincedence of the Abney surname.2

Eunice married George H. McLafferty on 24 November 1944 in Parker Memorial Baptist Church, Anniston, Calhoun County, Alabama. A wedding announcement in the Chattanooga Daily Times 3 Dec 1944 said that Eunice had been a resident of Anniston for two years and was employed by the Adams-McCarge Motor Company. George was said to be employed by the Air Service Command in Gadsden and that the couple would reside in Anniston.

Eunice Rebecca ABNEY and George H. McLafferty appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 11 April 1950 in Jacksonville, Calhoun County, Alabama. The household was listed as George H. McLafferty a 52 year old owner and manager of an auto supply store, born in Iowa and his wife, Euniice R. McLafferty was a 48 year old bookkeeper in the auto parts store, born in Georgia. Other sources show the store was Western Auto. They lived at 116 West Mountain Avenue.

     Nancy Welch Riser was born on 30 July 1845 in Alabama.1 She was also known as Nannie.

Nannie married James Oliver Mallory, son of James Mallory and Anna Maria Darby, on 28 January 1868 in Talladega County, Alabama.1

James Mallory1

James Welch Mallory
     James Mallory, son of Uriel Mallory Jr. and Malinda Welch, was born on 16 April 1807 in Orange County, Virginia.1

James married Anna Maria Darby on 21 December 1832 in Madison County, Virginia.2

James Mallory and Anna Maria Darby moved from Madison County, Virginia to Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama, circa 1834 They traveled with their infant daughter, Virginia, his parents, some of his siblings and his brother-in-law, Hugh S. Darby, husband of his sister, Caroline, and their family. They only remained briefly before moving on to Talladega county where they settled. They were soon joined by Oliver Welch and his family.3

James was a farmer. He and his wife, Ann, raised a large family of nine children. They lived on Selwood Plantation near Alpine in southern Talladega County, Alabama. He kept nearly every day from 1843-1877 a detailed journal of what interested him - an account of weather conditions, local, national, and often foreign affairs, and especially what happened to him and his family, his relatives, slaves, and neighbors. It was later published under the title, "Fear God and Walk Humbly": The Agricultural Journal of James Mallory, 1843-1877, edited by Grady McWhiney, Warner O. Moore, Jr., and Robert F. Pace. Published by The University of Alabama Press, Tuscaloosa, AL, 1997. It is well researched and footnoted.3

Watkins, age 20, farmer; Mary Anna Watkins, age 12; Mahala Wilson, age 15, black domestic servant; and Daniel Boaz, age 9, black domestic servant. All were born in Alabama. Catherine and Ella were his daughters, and Nelly was Ella's daughter.

James Mallory died on 28 October 1877 in Alpine, Talladega County, Alabama, at age 70.1 He was buried in Mallory Family Cemetery, Alpine, Talladega County, Alabama.1

James left a will dated 12 January 1877 in Talladega County, Alabama. He devised that "my beloved wife Anna Maria Mallory" receive the home place and all land attached, amounting to 840 acres. He also left her all the household and kitchen furniture, livestock, and farm utensils, At her death he asked that it be divided equally between his three daughters: Catherine S. Mallory, Mary Anna Mallory and Mary Ella Watkins.

He left a house and three acre lot near Talladega to his wife and asked that she rent it with the money go to his son David, and at her death, that David assume full control of the property.

To his son Francis S. Mallory he left a tract of land near Sylacauga, Alabama, formerly part of the land of H. S. Darby and including 110 acres.

He asked that a house and lot in Selma be sold to pay his debts and the remaining money be divided equally between James O. Mallory, Elizabeth D. Hardie, H. S. D. Mallory, the children of his daughter Virginia M. Welch, dec'd, David M. Mallory and Francis S. Mallory.

He named his wife and Son, James O. Mallory, his executors. The will was probated 26 Oct 1877 and witnessed by John W. Heacock and James Thompson.5

     Uriel Mallory Jr., son of Uriel Mallory and Hannah Cave, was born on 17 January 1775 in Orange County, Virginia.1
