- [S697] This is based on her not being listed in the 1810 census with Oren. She is also not listed in 1820 or 1830. He is living along in all three census enumerations. In her father;s will in 1824 only his granddaughet, Sophia W. Carstarphen is mentioned. I believe that Maria most likely died of childbirth of Sophia in 1808. Sophia is also not listed in the 1810 census with her father so was most likely given to relatives to raise.

John YAGER, son of Michael YAGER and Elizabeth Crigler, was born on 28 November 1750 in Culpeper County, Virginia.1 He was the son of Michael Yager born 1728 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia, who was son of Adam Yager born 1707/08 in Germany; who was the son of Nicholas Yager born 1678 in Germany, original immigrant to the 1717 Germanna Colony in Virginia.1
John YAGER was also known as "John Yager S. C." to separate him from the numerous other John Yagers living in Culpeper county at that time. Tax collectors had the same problem that we do in identifying men of the same name, so they used codes to tell them apart. In 1810 there were five John Yagers living in Culpeper county. Before his move to South Carolina our John was listed in records as John Yager Junr. John Yager Senr and John Yager Junr were not father and son, it was simply a code used to tell the two men apart. The older man was listed as John Yager Senr or John Yager PW for "Piney Woods." His son John Henry Yager was John Yager Junr. PW. Their was also a "Blind John" Yager. These were all different men. Our John Yager was the only one who moved to South Carolina, so after that move he was listed in records as John Yager SC.2
In 1889 a short biographical sketch of Texas businessman Hugh B. Yeager, grandson of Abijah Yeager and great grandson of John Yager, appear in A Biographical Souvenir of Texas:
John married Ann Nancy RENDER circa 1776 in Culpeper County, Virginia. She was the daughter of English colonist Lewis Render, and granddaughter of Joshua Render. They lived in the uplands near her family, north of modern Criglersville. This was close to the northern boundary of present day Madison county. Lewis Render's 1812 Madison county will names daughter Ann Yager as one of his heirs.
John saw military service between 1776 and 1782 in Virginia during the Revolutionary War and was said to have been at Yorktown when Cornwallis surrendered. He was not a member of the Virginia Continental Line, but most likely in the militia or an independent company.
John YAGER bought land from Michael Smith circa 1786 in Culpeper County, Virginia Colony. The deed was for 22 acres. [Culpeper DB N:147]. He never owned more than 2 horses and 6 cows in Virginia.
John YAGER moved from Virginia to Laurens County, South Carolina, before 1790 where he appeared on the 1790 census. The move was probably due to the poor tobacco crops during that period.
He appeared on the 1790 Federal Census of Laurens County, South Carolina, John Yagar household: 7 males under age 16 [Samuel 13, Ezekiah 11, William 11, Augustine 10, Reuben 9, Abijah 2, Abner 1], 1 male over age 16 [John 40], and two females [Ann 37, Ruth 9]. Two slaves.5
John YAGER was named an heir in the will of Michael YAGER dated 18 July 1793 in Culpeper County, Virginia. He received a 1/8 share of the estate sale along with his seven other brothers and sisters.2
John YAGER appeared on the 1800 Federal Census of Laurens County, South Carolina, John Yager. 2 males under 10 [Ira, Lewis], 2 males 10-15 [Abijah, Abner], 1 male 16-25 [Reuben],1 male 45 or older [John], 2 females under 10 [Elizabeth, Mary], 1 female 45 or older [Nancy]. No slaves were listed.

John YAGER moved from South Carolina to Lincoln County, Tennessee, after 1812.
As of 1815, John YAGER was living in Lincoln County, Tennessee. He was appointed oversee of a road there that year. He entered into a bond with Augustine for Reuben's estate probate in 1816.

John Augustine YEAGER
M, b. 1780, d. 1826
- Relationship
- 3rd great-granduncle of John Kennedy BROWN Jr.
John Augustine YEAGER, son of John YAGER and Ann Nancy RENDER, was born in 1780 in Culpeper County, Virginia. He was known as Augustine. Some researchers include two separate sons, John and Augustine. The 1889 biographical sketch of Texas businessman Hugh B. Yeager included a list of all the children of John and Ann Yager which includes John, but not Augustine. A search of records in the places that the Yeagers lived reveals nothing on a John Yager/Yeager of an appropriate age to be the son of John and Ann, but there are numerous records for Augustine Yeager. Yeager researcher Betty Yates Johnson believes that there was only one son named John Augustine Yeager, who was known as Augustine.1,2
He was probably one of the 7 males under age 16 listed in the household of his father, John YAGER, in the 1790 Federal Census of Laurens County, South Carolina, He would have been 10 years old.3
Augustine married Margaret McGlathery in 1810 in South Carolina. She and Jane "Jenny" McGathery, Ira's wife, were sisters. Their father David was associated with Augustine's brother Samuel Yeager in the formation of the Popular Springs Baptist Church in Laurens county.1
Augustine YEAGER appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Laurens County, South Carolina, Augustin Auger: 1 male 16-25, 1 male 26-44 [Augustine 30], 2 females under 10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 16-26 [Margaret 21], no slaves. Perhaps the younger male was a brother or cousin. He is too old to have been a son.4
As of 1816, Augustine YEAGER was living in Lincoln County, Tennessee. He was administrator of his brother Reuben's estate that year. Their father, John Yager, and Isaac Parker paid the bond. Isaac Parker was the father of John Parker, husband of Elizabeth Yeager. He was also the father of Mary "Polly" Parker who married John Cammack, Jr., and were the parents of Anna Cammack who married Lewis Yeager.5
Augustine YEAGER appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Lincoln County, Tennessee, 3 males under 10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 26-44 [Augustine 40], 3 females under 10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 26-44, [Margaret 31], no slaves.6
