Zemula Walker MILLER, daughter of Celiestine McCann, was born on 23 October 1878 in Talladega County, Alabama.
Zemula married James Creth BURT, son of Henry McKenzie BURT and Margaret Mims CURRY, on 5 June 1906 in Talladega County, Alabama. Zem was the fifth child of Judge George Knox and Celeste McCann Miller of Talladega. Her brother, Hampton, married Madge Burt, JC's eldest sister. She was the granddaughter of George Miller and Cynthia Hamilton, and the great granddaughter of Thomas Hamilton and Ann Kennedy. The children of JC and Zem were James Creth Burt, Jr., Nellie Hall Burt, and Hampton Miller Burt. In the early 1920s , JC and Zem moved to Palatka, Florida.1,2

Her obituary appeared 26 March 1936 in the Palatka Daily News, published in Palatka, Florida. Mrs. Zemulah Miller Burt, wife of James Creth Burt Sr., well known Palatkan, died at 6:15 a.m. today at her apartments at the Saratoga Hotel, following a critical illness of 60 days.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow from St. Mark's Episcopal Church, of which the deceased was a consecrated member, with the Rev. T. W. Tayloe officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill East Cemetery.
Mrs. Burt, member of a prominent Alabama family, was born at Talladega, the daughter of Judge and Mrs. G. K. Miller. She was educated at Peace Institute, a Presbyterian college at Raleigh, N.C., and was married to Mr. Burt at Talladega in 1908.
In delicate health for the past 23 years, Mrs. Burt had spent three years at Santa Monica, California, immediately prior to the removal of the family to Palatka 10 years ago, where they have since made their home.
She is survived by her husband, James Creth Burt, Jr., by one daughter, Nellie Hall Burt; a son, Miller Burt; by two sisters, Mrs. S. E. Green, of Birmingham, wife of a well known Alabama jurist, and Mrs. T. L. Welch, of Talladega; one brother, H. K. Miller, Monticello, Fla., and by several; nieces and nephews. Another son, James Creth Burt, Jr., was drowned in the St. James river here several years ago.
W. Carl Davis & Son are in charge of funeral arrangements. She was buried in Oak Hill East Cemetery, Palatka, Putnam County, Florida.

Wilmer Wilson BASSETT

Wilmer Wilson BASSETT was born on 11 February 1885.
Wilmer was educated at Interlaken High School in New York. At the age of 19, he entered Cornell University and took a three year special course. In 1907 he accepted a position as assistant superintendent of the North Florida Pecan Company in Monticello, Florida. After superintending the setting of a 600 acre pecan orchard, Wilmer began business for himself raising nursery stock consisting of pecans, Satsuma oranges and kumquat under the name of "Florida Nurseries". Gradually adding to his acreage, he soon had 740 acres with twelve tenant houses, with an average payroll of 30 hands per day. The nursery was supplemented by a dairy herd of 50 cows and 30 head of young cattle from which milk was sold both retail and wholesale.1
Wilmer married Ruby Henry BURT, daughter of Henry McKenzie BURT and Margaret Mims CURRY, on 14 April 1914 in Talladega County, Alabama. Ruby met the handsome Yankee by tossing her program onto his bald head from the balcony of the Monticello Opera House. This was on a dare from two of her boyfriends, who had to pay her a gold piece for the deed.2,3
