Phillip ABNEY

     Phillip ABNEY was baptised on 23 November 1623 at St. Mary de Castro Church in Leicester, Leicestershire, England, son of Paul ABNEY and Mary Brokesby.1,2

Phillip married Anne (?) circa 1644. He was a maltster by trade. He was admitted a free burgess of the borough 1648/9, became a member of the city council, 1650, chamberlain 1661/2 and an alderman in 1664. He resided in St. Mary's parish and was churchwarden there in 1652.3

John Sellers of Leicester, chapman, and Thomas Norris of Leicester, common brewer, on 1 May 1650 signed an article of agreement allowing Phillip Abney of the Newark, Leicester, gentleman, to possess peacably a fence or wall on the north side of South Gate Street, Leicester.4

In 1652 Phillip ABNEY was a churchwarden of St. Mary de Castro Church, Leicester, England. The churchwardens, usually two, were lay officials of the parish church. They have a duty to keep up to date recordsr of the property and an inventory of the valuables, and to produce these lists for inspection in case of a visitation or other inspection. They were responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of church buildings and contents. Whenever churchwardens spend money to pay tradespeople for repairs etc., the wardens have to record this in a logbook which is inspected along with the inventory.

Phillip ABNEY, George ABNEY, and Dannett ABNEY were vestrymen of St. Mary de Castro Church, Leicester, England, between 1652 and 1660. A vestryman is a member of the local church's Vestry, or leading body. The Vestry had the role of supervising local (Parish) public services, such as the workhouse, administration of poor relief, the keeping of parish records (Baptisms, Deaths and Marriages) and so on.

Following George's death in 1661, Phillip and Dannett continued to serve on the vestry. They were joined by Dannett's son, James Abney, in 1666.

On 18 Nov 1661 Phillip Abney of Leicester, Gentleman, leased to Vallintine Abbott of Leicester, gardener, a plot outside Southgates in Leicester in the parish of St. Mary.5 He was Lord Mayor of Leicester in 1678.

Phillip ABNEY, gentleman, left a will dated on 7 August 1696 in Leicester, England.6

Phillip ABNEY died in May 1697 in Leicester, England, at age 73. He was buried on 15 May 1697 in St. Mary de Castro Church, Leicester, England.1,7

Charlotte married Dr. Charles O'Neall circa 1811 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. There were no known children from this marriage.

Charlotte ABNEY was mentioned in the will of Henry Madison ABNEY dated 30 November 1830 in Claiborne, Monroe County, Alabama. If neither of my children live to twenty-one and have no heirs, I wish $300 of estate to go to my brother Ira, the remainder of estate I wish divided into three equal between Dabney Palmer Abney for the use and benefit of my brother Jonathan, to my sister Charlotte Oneale and the issue of her body, and to by brother Jacob P. Abney.2

Charlotte ABNEY died in 1870 in Gonzales County, Texas.

     Dr. Charles O'Neall was born on 25 July 1780 in Ninety-Six District, South Carolina. He was a son of Hugh O'Neall. He was a medical doctor and a member of the Methodist church.

Charles married Agnes Meek circa 1801 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

Charles married Charlotte ABNEY, daughter of Jonathan ABNEY and Rachel Elizabeth LARK, circa 1811 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. There were no known children from this marriage.

William Welch STONE appeared on a census, enumerated 5 June 1900, in the household of his mother Martha Dandridge WELCH in Ward 2, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. He was recorded as Willie Stone, age 13, and in school.

In 1904 William was employed by the Merchants Nathional Bank in Los Angeles, California.1

William married Rebecca G. McMillan on 1 March 1913 in Los Angeles, California.

Due to a need for men to serve during World War I, the United States instituted a draft. The first registration was for men between the ages of 21 and 31. As a result, this first registration included men born between June 5, 1886 and June 5, 1896. William filled out a draft card on 5 June 1917 in Los Angeles, California. He was 30 years old and employed as a bank teller with the First National Bank at 7th and Spring streets. He lived at 1414 Ridge Way in Los Angeles. He was born 1 Nov 1886 in Ashville, North Carolina. He was married, but his wife's name was not given. He was described as tall, medium build, with gray eyes and dark brown hair.2

William Welch STONE and Rebecca G. McMillan appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 7 January 1920 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. The household was listed as William W. Stone, a 33 year old bank clerk; Rebecca Stone, his 28 year old wife, born in Texas; and their 1 year 6 month old son, William W. Stone, Jr. They rented a home at 956 Kennsington Road.

William Welch STONE appeared on a census, enumerated 8 April 1930, in the household of his mother Martha Dandridge STONE in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. He was a 46 year old bank teller. His wife and son lived with him.

William was registered for the draft during World War II on 25 April 1942 while living in Los Angeles, California. He was 55 years old and was employed by Security First National Bank at 502 South Spring Street. His wife was Rebecca M. Stone and they lived at 1326 Comstock Avenue. He was born 1 November 1886 in Ashville, NC. He was described as 5 ft. 10.5 inches tall, 155 pounds, with gray eyes, gray hair and a light complexion.3

William Welch STONE died on 23 March 1978 in Solana Beach, San Diego County, California, at age 91.4

His obituary appeared 25 March 1978 in the The Los Angeles Times, published in Los Angeles, California. William W. Stone, aged 91. Beloved husband of Rebecca M. Stone. Formerly of Pacific Palisades. Mr. Stone passed away in his home in Solana Beach, Friday, March 24, 1978. He had lived in the Los Angeles area since 1887. In 1953 he retired from Security Pacifc Bank after serving for more than 48 years. Mr. Stone is survived by one son, Brig. Gen. William W. Stone, Jr. (U. S. Army ret.) and 3 grandchildren. Services private.

Fannie Lou Blount

     Fannie Lou Blount was born on 1 January 1852 in Talbotton, Talbot County, Georgia.1

Fannie married John Pittman BURT, son of Joseph John BURT and Elizabeth Grace BAKER, on 10 August 1868 in Talbotton, Talbot County, Georgia. The license was taken out 8 Aug 1868 and the ceremony was performed by A. M. Bethune, Ordinary. A second church ceremony was held 8 Dec 1868 with T. A Prower, Minister of the Gospel preceding. Fanny was the was the daughter of John Thomas and Louisa Mumford Blount.2,3

Fannie Lou Blount and John Pittman BURT appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 2 June 1880 in Robertson County, Texas. The household was listed as Jno. P. Burt, a 32-year-old bookkeeper and his 28-year-old wife, Fannie L. Burt. He was born in Texas, his father in Alabama and his mother in Georgia. Fannie was born in Georgia, as were her parents. They had two daughters, Mary L., age 8, and Floy L., age 5, born in Texas. The household included two servants, Eliza Willis, a 40-year-old mulatto cook from Mississippi and Mary Willis, a 12-year-old black nursemaid from Texas, and two boarders from Mississippi, store clerks Norman G. Smith, 25, and Jas. A. Gimmill, 23.4

Fannie was listed in the 1899 city directory for Atlanta, Georgia. Fannie L. Burt (widow John P) resiided at 161 Grant Street.5

On 9 September 1921 Fannie Lou BURT applied for a Confederate pension on her deceased husband John Pittman BURT in Bexar County, Texas. Fannie Lou Burt stated that she was the widow of John P. Burt and that he died in the spring of 1894 in Bexar county. She said that she had not remarried. She stated that they had married in January 1875 in Talburton, Georgia. She declared that she had been a resident of Texas since 26 Mar 1907 and that she was 75 years old, born 1 Jan 1856. She gave her post office as San Antonio. She gave her husband's full name as John Pittman Burt and at his enlistment he resided in Talburton, Georgia. He was very young so had only served during the later part of the war and was paroled 24 May 1865. He was a private in Co. D 6th Georgia Infantry.

An attached copy of his parole in Columbus, Georgia described him as 5' 10" with blue eyes, dark hair and fair complexion.

A letter dated 17 Jul 1935 to the comptroller said that Mrs. Burt was in good and active health and living with her daughter Mrs. Gladys B. Hill in San Antonio.6

Fannie Lou Blount died on 5 January 1937 in Houston, Harris County, Texas, at age 85.6 She was buried in Forest Park Cemetery, Houston, Harris County, Texas.1
