     Howard GIBBONS, son of Eldred Hazon GIBBONS and Cynthia Jane Jones, was born on 11 August 1932 in Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama.¹

Howard GIBBONS died on 9 May 2021 in Martin County, Florida, at age 88.¹ He was buried in Prattville Memorial Gardens, Prattville, Autauga County, Alabama.¹

His obituary appeared 13 May 2021 in the The Montgomery Advertiser, published in Montgomery, Alabama. Howard was born on August 11, 1932 in Prattville, AL to Edmond and Cynthia Jones Gibbons. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force. After serving his country, he earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama. He resided in Palm City, FL for 51 years. Howard worked as a Human Resources Administrator for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Palm Beach County, FL for 30 years before his retirement. He then worked at Rare Earth Pottery in Stuart, FL for 27 years, enjoying his passion for clay, pottery and the arts. He would say that was play, rather than work.

Howard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Wright Gibbons and his two brothers, Corky and Clarence Gibbons.

Howard will be so missed by his family and friends.

A graveside service will be held at Prattville Memory Gardens at 2:00 P.M., on Sunday, May 16, 2021, in Prattville, AL. The family will receive friends on Sunday one-hour prior to his service.

     Sarah ABNEY, daughter of Capt. William ABNEY and Mary CLARK, was born circa 1767 in South Carolina.² She was generally known as Sally.

Willilam Abney, Walter Abney and Sarah Abney were witnesses to a 11 Dec 1788 lease and 12 Oct release in Edgefield county from Joseph and Martha Towles to Abney Mays. The proof was dated 16 Apr 1823 by William Abney and was recorded 7 Jul 1823. Walter and Sarah children of Capt. William Abney, Sr. Note that his son William Abney, Jr. died in 1811 so could not be the witness who proved the deed in 1823.³

Sarah ABNEY witnessed the deed of Capt. William ABNEY on 29 December 1788 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Her sister Mary was also a witness.⁴

Sarah married James Coglin before 1807 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

On 15 May 1808 in Newberry County, South Carolina, William Abney, William Abney, Jr. and Salley Coglin gave a $2,000 bond to Samuel Lindsey OND (Ordinary Newberry District), to administer the estate of James Coghlin, Salley's husband. All three signed their names without having to use marks.⁵

In a 16 May 1808 note to Samuel Lindsey, OND, from Salley Coglin she wrote: "I hereby take this method to inform you that I have relinquised the administration of the estate of my deceased husband James Coghlin to my father William Abney." Signed: Salley Coghlin.⁶

On 23 May 1808 before Gideon Christian of Edgefield District -- William Clark, Walter Abney and Nicholas Maynard presented the appraisal of the estate of James Coghlin. Note: his name is spelled James Cogdil, Cogdill, and Coglin-- all within the same papers.

On 6 Jun 1808 the estate sale was held. Buyers were Dr. Charles O'Neall, James Span, Salley Coglin, Nathaniel Abney, William Clark, Sally Clark, Walter Abney, Philip Hazel, Julius Dean and others.

Note: Nicholas Maynard is believed to be the father of Nathaniel Maynard. Walter Abney was the Captain's son.⁷

     James married Sarah ABNEY, daughter of Capt. William ABNEY and Mary CLARK, before 1807 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

James Coglin died circa 1808 in Newberry County, South Carolina.

On 15 May 1808 in Newberry County, South Carolina, William Abney, William Abney, Jr. and Salley Coglin gave a $2,000 bond to Samuel Lindsey OND (Ordinary Newberry District), to administer the estate of James Coghlin, Salley's husband. All three signed their names without having to use marks.¹

     Deborah ABNEY, daughter of Sgt. John ABNEY and Susan TROUP, was born on 22 May 1788 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

Deborah ABNEY died on 17 December 1859 in Austin, Travis County, Texas, at age 71. From the 1860 Mortality Schedule - She was listed as a 73 year old white female, widow, born South Carolina, died Sep 1859 of dropsey. Note: Her husband was Sam Deen, deceased, of South Carolina.^1,2

     Katherine ABNEY, daughter of Sgt. John ABNEY and Susan TROUP, was born on 6 April 1805 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. She was also known as Kitty.

Katherine ABNEY died on 19 June 1830 at age 25.

     David William Richardson, son of William Richardson and Elizabeth Mary Ann ABNEY, was born on 14 September 1813 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

On 7 Apr 1835 a Petition for Partition was filed in Edgefield District Court by Thomas Gilliand and wife Dione, Randal Robinson and wife Elizabeth, John W. Tinsley and wife Clarissa, and David W. Richardson.

William Richardson died in 1815 and owned at the time a 156-acre tract of land on the big Saluda River. It was bounded by the river on the north, the estate of Joel Abney ont he sooutheast and west. It was undisposed of in his will and its value does not exceed $1,000.00.

William Richardson left a widow "Mary now the wife of John Kelly and five children to wit, your petitioners Dione, Elizabeth, Clarissa, and David W. and the defendant Nancy now the wife of Marcus Haygood his only heirs and distributees him surviving."

Mary has relinquished "her inheritance in her distributive share" of the land to her children.

Marcus Haygood and wife Nancy do not live in South Carolina.

They petition for Marcus and Nancy to be made part of the petition and ask for a writ of partition.

They were all summoned to appear in court June 8, 1835. Mark Black and M. W. Abney testified that they were acquainted with the land and believed that it could not be divided fairly and recommended that it be sold and that the land is not worth more than $500.00.

David William Richardson died in 1895 in Alco, Stone County, Arkansas.

     Diona Richardson, daughter of William Richardson and Elizabeth Mary Ann ABNEY, was born on 25 August 1804 in South Carolina.

Elizabeth Ann Richardson died on 15 November 1863 in Tarrant County, Texas, at age 55. She was buried in Johnson Station Cemetery, Arlington, Tarrant County, Texas.

     Nancy Richardson, daughter of William Richardson and Elizabeth Mary Ann ABNEY, was born in 1805 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

As of 7 April 1835, Nancy Richardson was no longer living in South Carolina. Her siblings Thomas Gilliand and wife Dione, Randal Robinson and wife Elizabeth, John W. Tinsley and wife Clarissa, and David W. Richardson filed a petition of partition on land owned by the estate of their father William Richardson, dec'd. He had died in 1815. Their mother, Mary, had remarried to John Kelly and relinquished her share of the inferitance. They said that Marcus Haygood and wfe Nancy do not live in state and petitioned for them to join the partition.¹

Marcus Haygood and Nancy Richardson appeared as heads of household on a census enumerated 2 December 1850 in Baird, Jefferson County, Alabama. The household was listed as Mark Haygood, a 45 year old farmer, born South Carolina, with real estate valued $250; his implied wife Nancy Haygood, age 45, born South Carolina, and their implied children: John Haygood, 16, in school; Wlliam, 14, in school; Mark, 12, in school; Isis (f), age 6; and Mary, 2. All of the children were born in Alabama.²

Nancy Richardson died in 1891 in Alabama.

     Clarissa Richardson, daughter of William Richardson and Elizabeth Mary Ann ABNEY, was born circa 1806 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

     Malissa Abigail Kelly, daughter of John Kelly and Elizabeth Mary Ann ABNEY, was born on 24 May 1824 in Greenville County, South Carolina.

Malissa Abigail Kelly died on 15 December 1915 in Fayette County, Illinois, at age 91.

     Evans Abney Kelly, son of John Kelly and Elizabeth Mary Ann ABNEY, was born on 11 October 1820 in Greenville County, South Carolina.

Evans Abney Kelly died on 15 May 1904 in Greenville County, South Carolina, at age 83.

     Mark M. Kelly, son of John Kelly and Elizabeth Mary Ann ABNEY, was born on 7 September 1823 in Newberry County, South Carolina.¹

Mark M. Kelly died on 24 December 1879 in Sonoma County, California, at age 56.¹ He was buried in Oak Mound Cemetery, Healdsburg, Sonoma County, California.¹

     Benjamin Franklin Kelly, son of John Kelly and Elizabeth Mary Ann ABNEY, was born on 14 July 1826 in South Carolina.¹

Benjamin Franklin Kelly died on 24 January 1896 in Jackson County, Alabama, at age 69.¹ He was buried in Kelly Cemetery, Jackson County, Alabama.¹

     John Kelly Sr. was born on 3 April 1758 in South Carolina. He was the son of Samuel Kelly, an Irish immigrant from Kings (now Offaly) County, Ireland. He settled in Wateree, north of Camden, South Carolina. He married Hannah Belton of Queens (now Laois) County, Ireland. They moved to the Quaker Colony of Bush River in Newberry couunty aabut 1762. Their daughter Anne married Hugh O'Neall of Newberry County and their son John Belton O'Neall was a distinquished jurist and author of The Annals of Newberry.¹

John Kelly Sr. died on 20 October 1817 at age 59. He was buried in Bush River Quaker Cemetery, Newberry County, South Carolina.

     Thomas Brown was born in North Carolina.

Thomas married Hannah Irby circa 1738 in Bladen County, North Carolina. Hannah may be another name for Fortune Holderby who lived with Henry Irby.¹

Thomas left a will dated 16 July 1748 in Hew Hanover County, North Carolina. Leaves to wife Fortune Brown 400 acres of land on the Sound. To daughter Isabella he leaves plantation up to the New River and to daughter Elizabeth he leaves plantation purchased of William Salter. He names his brother John Brown his executor. It was probated 10 May 1749.

     Henry Irby was born in 1699 in Charles City County, Virginia. Henry married a woman named Susannah there. He got i nto trouble there but broke out of jail with two other men. He fled to the safety of North Carolina, but the records around 1729 state that he frequently crossed the border and terrorized the residents of Virginia.

In North Caroline he lived with a woman named Fortune Holderby who had been living with a free black man named Paul Bunch until Bunch died. She is mentioned in Bunch's will as Fortune Holdbee.

Henry and Fortune moved to the New Hanover District where he died in 1733/34 and she was named execultor of his will. In his will the last name for her was written as Irby, but then crossed out and the name Holderby written. His children were described as born of the body of Fortune Holderby.

Fortune may have also been known as Hannah. She and Henry Irby were never married. She next married Thomas Brown and is mentioned in his will written 1749 in Bladen county.¹

Henry Irby and Fortune Holderby lived as husband and wife beginning about circa 1720 in North Carolina.

Henry Irby died circa 1734 in New Hanover County, North Carolina.

There was a court case beginning 1 Feb 1734 and running through 20 Nov 1739. The liticants were Henry Iry, deceased, Hannah Irby, the wife of Henry Irby, and Henry's executor of Onslow Precinst (in 1734). New Hanover Precinct (in 1735) and upon her marriage (1737/1738) to a Thomas Brown, of Bladen Precinct.

     William Henry BROWN, son of Andrew Jackson BROWN and Judith Priscilla Lane, was born on 28 January 1869 in Lampasas County, Texas.

He appeared on a census, enumerated 21 June 1880, in the household of his parents Andrew Jackson BROWN and Judith Priscilla Lane in Lampasas County, Texas. He was listed as son W. H. Brown, age 11, attending school, born in Texas.

William Henry BROWN died on 11 May 1955 in San Saba, San Saba County, Texas, at age 86. He was buried in Harmony Ridge Cemetery, San Saba County, Texas.¹

     Emily Madison BROWN, daughter of Andrew Jackson BROWN and Judith Priscilla Lane, was born on 10 May 1865 in Wise County, Texas.¹

She appeared on a census, enumerated 21 June 1880, in the household of her parents Andrew Jackson BROWN and Judith Priscilla Lane in Lampasas County, Texas. She was listed as daughter E. M. Brown, age 14, attending school, born in Texas.

Emily Madison BROWN died on 17 October 1940 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, at age 75. She was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.¹

     Asa Green BROWN, son of Andrew Jackson BROWN and Judith Priscilla Lane, was born in 1871 in Lampasas County, Texas.

Asa Green BROWN died in 1873 in Lampasas County, Texas.

     Francis Tisha Ann BROWN, daughter of Andrew Jackson BROWN and Judith Priscilla Lane, was born on 25 March 1871 in Lampasas County, Texas. She was also known as Fannie.

She appeared on a census, enumerated 21 June 1880, in the household of her parents Andrew Jackson BROWN and Judith Priscilla Lane in Lampasas County, Texas. She was listed as daughter F. T. Brown, age 9, attending school, born in Texas.

Francis Tisha Ann BROWN died on 2 April 1960 in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas, at age 89. She was buried in Senterfitt Cemetery, Lometa, Lampasas County, Texas. Plot G-6.¹

He appeared on a census, enumerated 21 June 1880, in the household of his parents Andrew Jackson BROWN and Judith Priscilla Lane in Lampasas County, Texas. He was listed as son G. W. Brown, age 5, born in Texas.

George Washington BROWN died on 6 May 1950 in San Saba, San Saba County, Texas, at age 73. He was buried in San Saba City Cemetery, San Saba, San Saba County, Texas.¹
