     Cincinnatus ABNEY, son of Thomas Hamilton ABNEY and Mary Ann Holmes, was born on 12 July 1828 at "Trail's End" in Randolph, Bibb (now Chilton) County, Alabama.1,2 He was probably named for Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus, a legendary Roman hero who, according to tradition, was called from the plough to be dicatator in 458 BC when the Rome was threatened by the Aequl. He defeated the enemy, resigned his dictatorship after sixteen days, and returned to the farm.

Cincinnatus ABNEY appeared on a census, enumerated 1 June 1830, in the household of Thomas Hamilton ABNEY and Mary Ann Holmes in Bibb (now Chilton) County, Alabama.3

Cincinnatus ABNEY appeared on a census, enumerated 1 June 1840, in the household of Thomas Hamilton ABNEY and Mary Ann Holmes in Bibb (now Chilton) County, Alabama.4

Cincinnatus married Mahulda Thomason on 20 April 1848 in Franklin Parish, Louisiana.5,6

Cincinnatus ABNEY purchased a government land patent 1 September 1849 in Richland Parish, Louisiana. The parcel of 39.96 acres, purchased at the Ouachita land office, was discribed as the southwest quarter of the southwest quarter of section 30, townwhip 15-N, and range 6-E..7

Cincinnatus ABNEY and Mahulda Thomason appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 15 August 1850 in Western District, Richland Parish, Louisiana. The household was listed as Cincinnatus Abney, a 22-year-old farmer and his 19-year-old wife, Mahala. Cincinnatus was born in Alabama and had real estate valued at $2,800. Also living in the household were Mahala's five siblings, the eldest being James F. Thomason, 23.8

Cincinnatus ABNEY died in 1855 in Franklin Parish, Louisiana.1

Cincinnatus ABNEY purchased a government land patent 1 July 1859 in Richland Parish, Louisiana. The 38.63 acres was discribed as the southwest quarter of the northeast quarter of section 25, township 15-N, and range 5-E. The cash sale was made at the Monroe land office..9

Virginia and Sis Frances have made Zach & George [their brother Zachariah and Frances' son George Woodruff] some clothes and trimmed them up nicely. You would think the cloth was made in New York. I am beginning to think the women are worth more than the men. If you could see me flying around you would think so."8

Virginia ABNEY died on 6 May 1907 in Randolph, Bibb County, Alabama, at age 80.1,11 She was buried in Abney Family Cemetery.

Frances married Newton McDaniel WOODRUFF on 18 December 1837 in Bibb (now Chilton) County, Alabama.4,1

Newton McDaniel WOODRUFF died in 1846 in Shelby County, Alabama, at age 30 leaving Frances as a widow. She was only 26 years old with two children.5

Frances Maria ABNEY died on 7 January 1896 in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama, at age 75.2 She was buried in Abney Cemetery, Maplesville, Chilton County, Alabama.

Frances's obituary was printed on 13 January 1898 in the Sentinel newspaper, published in Columbiana, Alabama. It read: "Mrs. Frances M. Woodruff died at the home of her son, Mr. George F. Woodruff, in Gadsden,Ala. on Friday the 7th, aged about 78 years. The deceased was the mother of the late Mrs. Jno S. Leeper, and resided at Columbiana for a number of years where she was well known and most highly esteemed. She was a consistent member of the Methodist church and during her long life illustrated be her walk and conversation that she was indeed a true disciple of the master. A mother of Israel, she passed to her reward. She leaves surviving her one son Mr. George F. Woodruff. of Gadsden, several brothers and sisters and many relatives and friends to mourn her departure. The remains were laid to rest in the Abney graveyard near Randolph,AL on last Saturday."

Robert Wilson ARNOLD

     Robert Wilson ARNOLD, son of Pressley Berry ARNOLD and Martha Elizabeth PARKER, was born in 1859 in Bibb County, Alabama.

Robert Wilson ARNOLD died in 1947 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. He was buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.1

His obituary appeared 30 October 1947 in the The Birmingham News, published in Birmingham, Alabama. Robert W. Arnold Dies At Residence.

Robert W. Arnold, 88, a resident of Birmingham for 76 years and former clerk in Circuit Judge J. Russell McElroy’s court, died last night at the residence, 921 South 14th Street, after a long illness.

A native of Bibb County, Mr. Arnold came to Jefferson County with his family in 1871, a few months before Birmingham was incorporated. In 1913 he was appointed warden at the old City Jail and later was promoted to commissioner of streets.

When Judge McElroy’s division of Circuit Court was created in 1927, Mr. Arnold was made clerk. He held that position until his retirement about four years ago.

As a boy, Mr. Arnold lived with his family at Elyton, then the county seat.

Surviving are three sons, Robert D. Arnold and L. M. Arnold, both of Birmingham, and Earl C. Arnold, Heflin; two daughters, Mrs. Florence Upshaw and Mrs. T. H. Powell, both of Birmingham; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Hester and Mrs. Eugenia Schwarz, both of Birmingham; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.1

Fredrick began military service in 1861 in Centreville, Alabama, as a private in Co. D 20th Alabama Infantry, CSA. He was captured at the Battle of Port Gibson near Vicksburg, Mississippi in 1863 and sent to prison in Alton, Illinois.

Fredrick Newton HARPOLE died on 17 December 1898 in Jacksonville, Arkansas, at age 60.

Her mother died on 3 October 1865 in Bibb County, Alabama, when Elizabeth was 14. After the death of Hannah, and that of Warren soon afterward, their children, all being minors, were taken in by Hannah's sister, Isabella, and her husband, John Babb, in Corinth, Mississippi. Only Catherine, who had already married, did not go with them.2

Elizabeth married Jeff Smith circa 1871 in Corinth, Mississippi.1

Elizabeth Rebecca PARKER died on 15 March 1941 in Corinth, Mississippi, at age 90.1
