Elizabeth ABNEY, daughter of Sir Thomas ABNEY and Mary Gunston, was born in 1704. She never married.
Following the death of her mother, Mary Gunston, on 12 January 1750 Elizabeth ABNEY inherited the manor of Stoke Newington, together with Abney House and Abney Park. She managed the estate, along with another at Tilford in the parish of Farnham, Surrey.
She purchased Tilford House of Surry in 1760 and at her death bequeathed it to her chaplain, Rev. Thomas Tayler.1

"Carrie Scales Evans died peacefully on her birthday in her home in Orange Beach, AL on Saturday, May 6, 2023. She was surrounded by family and under the care of Gentiva Hospice. She was the daughter of Estelle Jane Bland Scales and John Curtis Scales of Livingston, AL.
Mrs. Evans was born in Bellamy, AL, lived in York, AL for twelve years and grew up in Livingston, AL. She attended Ward Belmont in Nashville, TN for her senior year of high school.
At the University of Alabama, Mrs. Evans joined Kappa Kappa Gamma. After graduation, she married A.T. (Gus) Evans and moved with him to Newport, RI while Mr. Evans attended Naval Justice School. From 1953-1957, they lived in various Eastern seaports. Once Mr. Evans was discharged from the Navy, they moved to Mr. Evans' family home of Shuqualak, MS.
During her time in Shuqualak, Mrs. Evans joined the Ladies Auxiliary and became an avid bridge player. She also helped charter a Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter at Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS.
After Mr. Evans' death in 2004, Carrie moved to Memphis, TN where she lived for eighteen years. In Memphis, Mrs. Evans joined the Decorative Arts Trust and The Arts and Garden Club which helped fulfill her love of flower arranging and gardening. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames of America and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
In September 2022 Mrs. Evans moved to Orange Beach, AL.
Mrs. Evans is survived by her three children: Isham Harrison Evans IV and wife Betty Smith Evans of Oxford, MS, Jane Evans Atkins of Orange Beach, AL and Semmes Evans Zazzara of Arlington, VA; and her grandchildren: Elisha Franklin Evans of Oxford, MS, Lawrence King Holcomb and fiancée Molly Proffer of St. Louis, MO, Carrie Horn Atkins of Orange Beach, AL, William Augustus Kost and wife Lucy Coleman Kost of Richmond, VA and Patrick Benedict Zazzara III of Arlington, VA.
A family graveside service was held on May 13, 2023 at Shuqualak Cemetery. Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon, MS, was in charge of the service which was officiated by Reverend Don Tew, pastor of Mount Enon Baptist Church in Dothan, AL and former pastor of Shuqualak Baptist Church."
