Albert married Adaline Pitts, daughter of John H. COTTINGHAM and Obedience BROWN, on 29 August 1844 in Lowndes County, Alabama. Adaline was a young widow.3

Albert P. Moseley died on 17 April 1899 in Alabama at age 80.2

     Alexander KENNEDY was born circa 1745.

Alexander KENNEDY immigrated in 1763 to Charleston, South Carolina. He is believed to have come here from Ireland.2

Alexander married Jane (?) circa 1769 in South Carolina.3

Alexander KENNEDY was granted land 13 September 1784 in Old 96 District, South Carolina. It contained 140 acres on Tosetys Creek, a branch of the Saluda River. The plat was bounded on the northeast by Paul Abney's land.

Alexander KENNEDY appeared on the 1790 Federal Census of Edgefield County, South Carolina, listing two males 16 & over [Alexander, William], one male under 16 [James] and four females. The household was listed next to Dannett Abney and three houses away from Sam Abney, Jr.4

The land of Alexander KENNEDY adjoined land sold by Nathaniel ABNEY to John ABNEY 30 January 1792 Edgefield County, South Carolina. The land was on the long branch of Tosety Creek and adjoined the widow Abney[Harriett?], Paul Abney, and Alexander Kenida[Kennedy].5

Alexander KENNEDY died circa 1793 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.6

His estate was probated on 4 November 1793 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. At that time a bond was posted by Jane Kennedy, John Abney, and Paul Abney stating that Alexander Kennedy, deceased, had left no will. Jane Kennedy was appointed administratrix and ordered that the estate be inventoried and appraised within ninety days. The appraisers were John Abney, Paul Abney, Thomas Spraggins and Benjamin Burton. Nathaniel Abney was judge of probate.7

     William KENNEDY, son of Alexander KENNEDY and Jane (?), was born in 1769 in Ireland.2

William KENNEDY witnessed the sale of land from Samuel ABNEY Jr. to Thomas Spraggins on 14 August 1793 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. For 8 pounds he sold 18 acres, part of 150 acres originally granted 20 May 1769 unto Stephen Collins and conveyed to Samuel Abney, dec'd, the father of the said Samuel Abney, and he being heir at law. Said tract was on the Saluda River adjacent to branches of Tosetys Creek and land of said Thomas Spraggins. Witnesses were William Kennedy and John Abney.3

William married Martha ABNEY, daughter of Samuel ABNEY Sr. and Martha Harriett HAMILTON, circa 1794 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.1

During the War of 1812, William enlisted in Capt. Zachary Smith Brooks' Company of cavalry. The date of the muster roll is not known, but the officers were: Zachariah Smith Brooks, Captain; Robert Christie, First Lieutenant; George Pope, Second Lieutenant; Joel Abney, Cornet; John Abney, Secretary; John Abney, First Sergeant; Hardy Matthews, Second Sergeant; Wade Carson, Bugler.

The land of William KENNEDY adjoined land sold by John ABNEY to James BARNES 11 February 1800 Edgefield County, South Carolina. The land was on Tosedys Creek bounded by the lands of Paul Abney, James Summers, John Abney, [Wlliam?] Kennedy, and vacant.5

William KENNEDY bought a tract of land from John ABNEY on 10 April 1800 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. For £15 sterling the sale was for 100 acres being part of 740 acres originally granted to said John Abney 5 Sep 1785 upon Tosety Creek of Saluda River, said 100 acres bounding on said William Kennedy's land, Paul Abney, road from Saluda Old Town to Charleston, old Dutch survey now belonging to Cullen Lark. Witnesses were Azariah Abney and Joel Abney. It was signed by John Abney and proven 10 Apr 1802 by Joel Abney before Nathaniel Abney, JP. Recorded 26 Mar 1803.6

The land of William KENNEDY adjoined land sold by Jonathan ABNEY to Dr. John Bolger 1 March 1805 Edgefield County, South Carolina. Land on Tosetys Creek bounded on northeast by William Kennedy, Paul Abney and James Barnes, on southeast by James Summers, south by Crook Fork Branch of Tossestys Creek and said Bolger's plantation, northeast to wagon road from Saluda Old Town towards Charleston, up said road to a cross road leading to Paul Abneys, the bounds of William Kennedy's land on said Charleston road, along said cross road to where William Kennedy now lives, originally to Alexander Kennedy, dec'd.7

William KENNEDY bought land from an unknown person in 1808 in Jasper County, Georgia. He said he was from Edgefield, South Carolina.

William KENNEDY sold land to John ABNEY on 15 July 1809 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. William Kennedy to John Abney, merchant, 200 acres on Tosetys branch of Saluda River, part of the same originally granted to my fatherAlexander Kennedy, the balance joining thereto originally granted to said John Abney, conveyed to me, said 200 acres adjoined on northeast of Paul Abneys land, on southeast of John Bolger, south on said John Abneys, west by Jesse Sanford, southwest by Azariah Abney, north by said John Abney; also to procure a renounciation or relinquishment of my wife's dower, also my mother's claim in the [word lost in binding] also the claim or claims in the same of my brothers and sisters, and will idemify said John Abney or his heirs and assigns for any loss, damages or trouble caused respecting said land or any part thereof. Witnesses: George Nunn, Alexr S. Legg, Hugh Duffey. Signed William Kennedy and proven 28 Nov 1809 by George Nunn. Sampson Pope, JP. Justice Sampson Pope certifies relinquishment of dower rights by Patsy or Martha Kennedy, wife of William Kennedy, 16 Dec 1809; signed Martha Kennedy. Recorded 28 Nov 1813.8

William KENNEDY sold a tract of land to John ABNEY, merchant, on 15 July 1809 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. In the bond, William Kennedy stated his father was Alexander Kennedy and his wife Patsey or Martha Kennedy. The bond was for 200 acres on Tosetys Creek, a branch of the Saluda River, (part of an original grant to his father Alexander Kennedy). Tosety Creek is where Samuel Abney, Sr.'s land was in Edgefield (now Saluda) county. The land was discribed as being originally granted to said John Abney and conveyed to William Kennedy. It was on northeast side of Paul Abney's land, on southeast of John Bolger, south by more land of John Abney, west by John Sanford, southwest by Azariah Abney and north by said John Abney. Witnesses were George Nunn, Alex. S. Legg, and Hugh Duffey. Patsey or Martha Kennedy, wife of William, relinquished her dower.1,9,10

William KENNEDY witnessed the deed of John ABNEY and Zachariah ABNEY on 29 December 1810 in Edgefield (now Saluda) County, South Carolina. According to the bond, William Kennedy, now of Georgia, had sold land where he formerly lived on Tosetys Creek, a branch of the Saluda River. It not being convenient for him to procure rights from some of the legatees of his father's estate, including his brothers John and James Kennedy and his sister Rosanna Kennedy, Zachariah paid $200 bond to indemnify John Abney against claims of the legatees should they come forward.11,12

William KENNEDY appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Monticello, Jasper County, Georgia. 2 males under 10, 1 male 16-25, 1 male over 45 [William], 1 female under 10, 1 female 26-44 [Martha], and 6 slaves.

William KENNEDY was named an heir in the will of Jane KENNEDY dated 16 October 1823 in Jasper County, Georgia. She left him and her other heirs one dollar each.13

William KENNEDY purchased a government land patent 20 April 1825 in Greene County, Alabama. From the St. Stephens General Land Office he purchased 80 acres of the east half of the southwest quarter of section 1 in township 22-N, range 1--E. He was listed as William P. Kennedy.

William KENNEDY appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Greene County, Alabama, 1 male 60-69 [Willam, 60], 1 female 50-59 [Martha, 54], and 13 slaves.

He purchased a government land patent 20 October 1835 in Greene County, Alabama. From the St. Stephens General Land Office he purchased 40 acres of the northwest quarter of the northwest quarter of section 6 in township 20-N, range 1--E and another 40 areas in the southwest quarter of the norhtwest quarter of the same section..

William KENNEDY appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Greene County, Alabama, 1 male 60-69 [William, 70], 1 female 20-29, 1 female 60-69 [Martha, 64], and 23 slaves.

William left a will dated 7 September 1848 in Greene County, Alabama. He mentions his wife, Martha, son, James Kennedy, and daughter, Harriett Brown. His son James was his executor when the will was probated 27 Aug 1849. In court papers Martha mentions her son James Kennedy and son-in-law William P. Brown.

William KENNEDY died in June 1849 in Greene (now Hale) County, Alabama.2

His obituary appeared 21 July 1849 in the Alabama Beacon, published in Greensboro, Alabama. "Died -- At his residence in this county, William Kennedy, attar a lingering illness of about 10 months." It said that he was at least "4 score years of age" (80), but "his age not correctly known, from the fact that his father's house was plundered by the tories in the revolutionary war, and the family record perished in the ruin."

It said that although too young to serve in the army William rendered aid by finding and revealing to the patriots the hiding places of the tory bands.

He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for over 50 years.

"He left an aged and afflicted partner, to whom he was truly an affectionate and tender husband. As a father, he was unsurpassed in kindness, -- as a master, proverbial for humanity and indulgence to his servants."

Dorcas married Daniel Fore circa 1796 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.1

Martha ABNEY, Dorcas ABNEY and Rebecca ABNEY received gifts of property from their mother Martha Harriett ABNEY on 13 May 1807 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Martha Abney, widow, to her daughters Martha Kennedy, Rebecca Brooks and Dorcas Fore, Deed of Gift, for love and affection, to Martha Kennedy one Negro girl now in her possssion named Noon, ten years old; to Rebecca Brooks, one Negro girl named Jane now in her possession about 13 years old; and to Dorcas Fore one Negro girl named Cheney about 8 years old now in my possession. Witnesses were Zachariah Abney, Nancy Davis, and Patsy Davis. It was signed by Martha /x/ Abney and proven 13 May 1807 by Zachariah Abney. William Spraggins, JP. Recorded 15 Apr 1808.2

     Mary Halliburton, daughter of David Halliburton Jr. and Lucy Reynolds, was born circa 1792 in Virginia.1

Mary married Asa Anderson BROWN, son of Jesse Anderson BROWN and Obedience LEGGETT, circa 1812 in Tennessee. Mary (aka Polly) was a cousin of Charles Haiburton, the first husband of Jerusha Humphreys.1

Mary Halliburton died circa 1814 in Tennessee.1

Charles Augustus Halliburton1,2

     Charles Augustus Halliburton, son of John Holloway Halliburton Sr. and Mary Humphreys, was born circa 1794 in Wake County, North Carolina. He was the son of John Holloway Halliburton and Mary Humphreys. His grandmother was Lucy Reynolds, the sister of Jerusha's mother, Susannah Reynolds.1

Charles married Jerusha HUMPHREYS, daughter of John HUMPHREYS III and Susannah Reynolds, circa 1813 in Tennessee. The marriage produced one son, Andrew Jackson Halliburton. After the death of his father in the war and Jerusha's remarriage he stayed on in Tennessee with his Halliburton relatives when the others moved on to Alabama. He became a prominent citizen and something of a Halliburton family historian. There is a very interesting letter from him in the Halliburton family history where he talks about his mother's death in Texas and mentions Asa and Asa's first marriage to a Halliburton cousin also.1

On 6 March 1815 Charles Augustus died in Haywood County, Tennessee, He had been wounded 8 Jan 1815 at the Battle of New Orleans just 15 days after the Treaty of Ghent was signed. Died two months later from his wounds when his son was only 5 months old. leaving Jerusha a widow.1,2
