John Wilson ABNEY, son of Pvt. Paul ABNEY and Rhoda NORMAN, was born on 2 January 1788 in Greenville County, South Carolina. He was a blacksmith.
During War of 1812, John Wilson ABNEY enlisted in the Tennessee Militia under Col. Dyer in 1812 in Dickson County, Tennessee. He was killed during the Battle of New Orleans.
John Wilson ABNEY died on 23 February 1815 in New Orleans, Louisiana, at age 27.1 He was buried in Chalmette National Cemetery, Chalmette, St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana.

William W. ABNEY

William W. ABNEY, son of Pvt. Paul ABNEY and Rhoda NORMAN, was born on 2 February 1790 in Greenville County, South Carolina.
William married Amelia Bates on 12 March 1807 in Davidson County, Tennessee. After their marriage the couple moved to Dickson county, Tennessee with his parents. In March 1818 he received a bounty land grant in Gallatin county, Illinois. They returned to Dickson county in July 1824. They moved back to Equality in Gallatin county on 10 Nov 1829 and lived there until his death.1
In 13 August 1813 William, at the age of 23, enlisted in 2nd Reg't (Cheatham's) W. Tennessee Militia of Col. W. P. Anderson's Regiment for military service during the War of 1812. He also served under Capt. Campbell in the 24th U. S. Infantry. He was described as 5' 9" tall, grey eyes, light hair and light complexion. In March 1814 he was wounded at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in Alabama. He was discharged 6 Apr 1815 at Camp Russell near Mobile. For his service he received a bounty land grant in Gallatin County, Illinois.2,3
On 11 September 1824 William was was arrested for the murder of David Hunter. He was found guilty of felonius manslaughter. I am not sure how long the trial took, but I do know that William and Amelia had two more children after he was arrested.
