     Nancy SPRAGGINS, daughter of Capt. William SPRAGGINS Jr. and Nancy ABNEY, was born circa 1791.

Nancy SPRAGGINS died between 1806 and 1809 in South Carolina.

She was named an heir in the will of Nathaniel ABNEY dated 29 July 1806 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. "My four granddaughters Tabitha Atkinson, Isabelle, Nancy and Sally Spraggins, to be considered as one of my children." Both Isabella and Nancy died prior to 1809 and their father, William Spraggins, who would by law be entttled to their shares, petitioned the court asking that the money go to Tabitha and Sarah.¹

     Martha (Gooch?) was born in 1775.

Martha married Capt. William SPRAGGINS Jr., son of William SPRAGGINS Sr. and Martha ABNEY, circa 1794 in South Carolina.

Martha (Gooch?) died in 1825.

She was named an heir in the will of Capt. William SPRAGGINS Jr. dated 23 October 1821 in Abbeville District, South Carolina. To her he left all his estate, both real and personal, to her during her natural life or widowhood. If she should remarry she would receive one third of the estate during his lifetime and upon her death it would revert back to the estate.¹

     William SPRAGGINS, son of Capt. William SPRAGGINS Jr. and Martha (Gooch?), was born on 18 December 1798 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.

William SPRAGGINS moved from South Carolina to Pickens County, Alabama, 1819.

He was named an heir in the will of Capt. William SPRAGGINS Jr. dated 23 October 1821 in Abbeville District, South Carolina. To his beloved son William Spraggins, "now living in Alabama", he left one Negro boy, Tom. He also left him an equal share of the remaining estate with his three other children: Tabitha Atkinson, Sarah Meek and Thomas Spraggins.¹

William SPRAGGINS died on 24 January 1860 in Pickens County, Alabama, at age 61.

     Thomas Atkinson was born in South Carolina.

Thomas married Tabitha SPRAGGINS, daughter of Capt. William SPRAGGINS Jr. and Nancy ABNEY, before 1806 in South Carolina.

Thomas Atkinson, John ABNEY, Azariah ABNEY, Austin Pollard Eskridge, Joel P. ABNEY, Sarah (ABNEY) Carson and Dr. John Bolger were listed as heirs receiving payments from the estate of Nathaniel ABNEY 19 January 1810 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He received $436..97 as husband of Tabitha Spraggins, one of the granddaughters listed in the will.¹

Thomas Atkinson died in 1859.

     Nathaniel Abney Eskridge, son of Austin Pollard Eskridge and Lydia ABNEY, was born on 30 January 1803 in Edgefield County, South Carolina.^1,2

Nathaniel Abney Eskridge purchased a government land patent 30 March 1837 in Marengo County, Alabama. From the Demopolis, Alabama land office he purchased 79.82 acres of land in township 15-N, range 1-E, section 25, being the north half of the northeast quarter of that section.³

     Clara Mae Gardner was born on 9 April 1915 in Alabama.¹

Clara married Miles Harrison HUNT, son of Thomas Brown HUNT and Mary Jane NIXON, on 26 February 1927 in Autauga County, Alabama. Their union produced one child, Ruth Eloise Hunt (1927-1997.)¹

She and Miles Harrison HUNT were divorced circa 1929.

Clara Mae Gardner died in 1974 in Maine.¹ She was buried in Friendship Cemetery, Standish, Cumberland County, Maine.¹

     Lydia Ophelia Hicks was born on 22 September 1900 in Bibb County, Alabama.¹

Lydia married Grover Cleveland HUNT, son of Thomas Brown HUNT and Mary Jane NIXON, on 25 July 1923 in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.²

Lydia Ophelia Hicks died on 24 December 1970 in Jefferson County, Alabama, at age 70.¹ She was buried in Elmwood Cemetery and Mausoleum, Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. Block 18.¹

     Thomas ABNEY, son of Sir Thomas ABNEY and Mary Gunston, was born in 1701 in England.¹

Thomas ABNEY died on 17 November 1707 in London, England.¹ He was buried in St. Peter's Churchyard, London, England.¹

     Emaline Rene MARSHALL, daughter of John MARSHALL and Elizabeth WRIGHT, was born on 28 March 1826 probably in Pike County, Georgia.¹

Emaline married Williiam McDowell Joiner on 21 December 1843 in Pike County, Georgia.

Emaline Rene MARSHALL died on 23 February 1895 in Columbia County, Arkansas, at age 68.

     Elizabeth Hamel MARSHALL, daughter of John MARSHALL and Elizabeth WRIGHT, was born on 11 April 1831 probably in Pike County, Georgia.¹

Elizabeth Hamel MARSHALL died on 4 June 1833 probably in Pike County, Georgia, at age 2.¹

     Williiam McDowell Joiner was born on 14 June 1823 in Baldwin County, Georgia.

Williiam married Emaline Rene MARSHALL, daughter of John MARSHALL and Elizabeth WRIGHT, on 21 December 1843 in Pike County, Georgia.

Williiam McDowell Joiner died on 17 October 1902 in Columbia County, Arkansas, at age 79.

     James A. Smith was born circa 1822 in Georgia.

James married Adeline S. MARSHALL, daughter of John MARSHALL and Elizabeth WRIGHT, on 27 August 1848 in Pike County, Georgia.¹

Smith, a 28 year old farmer and Adeline S. Smith, his 24 year old wife. Both were born in Georgia and had real estate valued $150.²

James A. Smith and Adeline S. (Marshall) Smith appeared as head of household on a census enumerated 7 November 1870 in Gainsville, Cooke County, Texas. The household was listed as James A. Smith, a 48 year old farmer; Adeline S. Smith, his inferred wife, age 46, keeping house and James M. Marshall, a 34 year old farmer, with personal estate valued $400. All were born in Georgia. James Marshall was Adeline's brother.³

Martha married John Wesley MARSHALL, son of John MARSHALL and Elizabeth WRIGHT, on 20 December 1849 in Pike County, Georgia.¹

She appeared on a census, enumerated 14 September 1850, in the household of her mother-in-law Elizabeth (WRIGHT) MARSHALL in Pike County, Georgia. She was recorded as Martha A. Marshall, age 17, born Georgia. She was living with her husband John W. Marshall, and it said that they had married within the last 12 months.²
